Verda Sorensen Thomas Hughes

Verda Sorensen Thomas Hughes 75, 82 W. 200 N., Malad, died Wednesday in the Oneida County Nursing Home.
She was born January 20, 1911, in Mendon, Utah, to Ammon A. and Cora Hardman Sorensen. She grew up and was educated in Arbon Valley and Malad and was a graduate of Malad High School.
She later attended beauty school in Salt Lake City.
She married J. Warren Thomas April 7, 1930 in Farmington, Utah. He died April 23, 1968.
She married Jesse Hughes April 8, 1971 in Malad. He died September 19, 1980.
She was a member of the LDS Church, the American Legion War Mothers, and was active in the Malad Senior Citizens where she served as an officer.
She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed gardening.
She is survived by one son, A. Brent Thomas, Austin Texas; three stepsons, Lloyd Hughes, Salt Lake City; Trevor Hughes, Logan, Utah; Kyle Hughes, Ogden, Utah; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Jim (Judy) Gillespie, Boise; Ray Don Serrence; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Gladys S. Nelson, Provo, Utah; and Mrs. Sherman (Norma) Oyler, East Garland, Utah. She was preceded in death by one son and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel with Bishop Clarence Kent officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
