Son of James Arbon and Elizabeth Newman
James Arbon Jr. was the third child of James Arbon and Elizabeth Newman. A brother James preceding him died and he was given the deceased brother’s name, where the death was in infancy. James Jr. was born 9 October 1812 and married Susan Newman who was born 11 July 1814. On 12 October 1835 he was 23 and she 21 years of age. They raised a family of 12 children, many of whom came to America and to Utah. Although they greatly longed to come to Zion it was not to be their privilege. Although we have but little information about them personally we are fortunate through the research of a great-great granddaughter, Ina Jean Hall Anderson, to be able to publish several letters received from them by Ellen Arbon Robbins, dating back to 1863-67. These revealing letters are reproduced herein for your information and reaction. They bring so many realities of their day to our attention and share with us the love and the high regard they held for each other and for their new found Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, now being established “in the tops of the mountains.”
P.S. Susan is reported to have been born at sea, James Jr. was born in Graveley, England and all their children born and raised there.
