Lois Barlow Hill

Lois Barlow Hill, a woman with a great love for the gospel of Jesus Christ, passed away early in the morning of Sept. 4, 2001.
She was born April 1, 1914, in Malad, Idaho, the first daughter and second child of Alberta Sweeten and Elbert Henry Barlow who were both from wonderful pioneer families. She married John D. Hill, a farmer. Stake Patriarch, and lifelong resident of Granger. Utah, on Dec. 20. 1 957, in the Salt Lake Temple; he preceded her in death in January 1981. Lois was a wonderfully hard worker and. after the death of her father when she was only nine years old, provided significant financial support to her mother and brother and sisters throughout her life. In order to increase her own ability to help those she loved, she graduated from LDS High School in 1931 and attended Luther Burbank College of Commerce in Santa Rosa, California, and LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, becoming o highly skilled legal secretary. Her career lasted many years during which time she worked with both Marion G. Romney and Owen G. Reichman. She interrupted her career from 1947-1949 to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Eastern Canada, where she made many lifelong friends. She spent the last six years of her working life as a volunteer for the First Presidency of the Church. Marrying Jack Hill brought a great deal of joy and new activity into her life as she supported and joined her soul mate in his many community and Church activities in Granger. When he became ill and could no longer fulfill some of his responsibilities, she stepped in to help even more; she also took loving charge of his care in their home until his passing. Lois loved to travel, and after the death of her beloved Jack, she made eight trips to Europe and The Holy Land. Although Lois had no children of her own, she was treasured Aunt and Great Aunt Lolo to her and Jack’s brothers’ and sister’s children and their many offspring.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews. Gene Barlow (Linda), Lynne Likes (Leroy). Gayle Godfrey (Bob). Bob Barlow (Maryann), Ron Barlow (Nora), Beverly Hughes (David). Marilyn Taumoefolau (Sam). Nadine Estap, Sue Booth-Forbes, and Diane Porter (Vard), and Jack s sister, Vin Sansom, and his nieces and nephews. Kirk Hill (Suzanne), Jack Hill (Anne), Billy Hill (Jean), Guy Hill. Betsy Simmons, Ramona Barker, LaVelle San-dall, Ann Spurrier, Norma Hansen, Don Sansom, Joe Sansom, Bob Sansom. Jean Packard. Nelson Peterson, Marion Gardner. Joyce Eskelson, and many others. She is also survived by her sister, Naomi Barlow Larson, and her sister-in-law, Christia Poe Barlow Smith; she was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister, Lozene Barlow Cope, and her brother, Robert C. Barlow.
Lois funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 8. 2001, at the Granger Sixth Ward, 3224 Hillsdale Drive, West Valley, with a viewing from 1-1:45 p.m. Following the funeral, she will be buried at Elysian Burial Gardens in Salt Lake City.
