Hettie Dredge Barnes

Hettie Dredge Barnes, 88, passed away Wednesday morning, September 30, 1992, after a long illness.

Born February 23,1904 in Malad City, Idaho, a daughter of Jessie Horatio and Eliza Rosetta Kunz Dredge. She married Ralph A. Bames, April 28, 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death, January 10, 1992.

In her youth Hettie served a mission to Toronto, Canada. As an active member of the LDS Church she served three times as a Relief Society President. Her influence was felt abroad as a missionary with her husband to the Italy, Rome Mission and then later served with him as he presided over the mission. While he was a Patriarch she supported him in every way.

Hettie spent many years as Director of Volunteer Services at the Salt Lake County Hospital.

She leaves a legacy of three sons and a daughter: R. Raymond and Chloris Barnes, Moraga, California; Maureen and Harold A. Brooks; N. Alan and Kathleen Barnes, all of Salt Lake City; Douglas D. and Karen Barnes, Bountiful; as well as 21 grandchildren and 33 great- grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother and seven sisters: Calvin Dredge, Soda Springs, Ellen Castleton, Salt Lake City, Mary Crowther, Orem, Utah, Thelma Gibbs, Portage, Utah, Ruth Swanson, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Rose Ward and Norma Hill, both of St. George, Utah, and Elaine Mills, Malad. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 5 in Salt Lake. Interment was in the Salt Lake Cemetery.
