Sandra Jean Price Hess

Sandra Jean Price Hess, 76, life long Malad resident, passed away in her home on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 following a brief battle with cancer. Sandra was born on Nov. 28, 1940 in Malad, ID at the home of her grandparents Jonah and Thelma Evans. Sandra was the daughter of Kleal and Jayne Price. She was raised and educated in Malad, ID and was a graduate of Malad High School class of 1959. She married her high school sweetheart J. Marvin Hess on June 22, 1958 in Las Vegas, NV and later, in 1965, they were sealed in the Logan, UT LDS temple for time and all eternity. After Marvin completed his education at the U of U in Salt Lake City, UT, they lived various places until settling down in 1970 in their hometown of Malad, ID. Sandra and Marvin worked side by side at Hess Pumice Products, the family business, and she was in charge of all accounting and management of the office of Hess Pumice Products for many years. She was a woman of many talents and abilities. She loved Malad and felt it her civic duty to carry on what her forefathers had done in giving us what we enjoy in our community today. Sandra was the first woman to hold a city office in Malad government and served as a city council woman. She also was Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, Chairman of Planning and Zoning, Chairman of the Gem Community Committee, Chairman of the relocation and renovation of the present Oneida County Museum, a committee member in passing the bond election for the present Malad High School, and a member of the Welsh Society. She was also a recipient of the Community Volunteer Service Award. Sandra served in various positions as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including: Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, Sunday School Teacher, and scribe for the Stake Patriarch. She served an 18-month mission with Marvin in the New York, New York South Mission and served as an ordinance worker in the Logan, UT temple for 8 years and in 2 years in the Brigham City, UT temple. Sandra was known for her amazing cooking, and she loved entertaining family and friends. Writing poetry, crocheting, knitting, sewing, yard work and artwork were among just a few of her many talents. What she did best was loving Marvin and her family. She was a great example of womanhood and motherhood. Sandra was an elect and grand lady who was kind to everyone she met. She will be missed by all who knew her. Sandra is survived by her eternal companion Marvin, her three children, Mike (Danece) Hess, Bismark North Dakota Mission; Lisa (Mike) Atkinson, Malad, ID; Lorna (Val) Perry, Malad, ID; 13 grandchildren and 37 great grand children; 3 brothers, Kleal J. (Jackie), Brad (Laurie) Price, Richard (Marta) Price, and 1 sister, Debbie (Eric) Thomas. She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters; Baby Price, and Deanna (Lowell) Budge. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 10 at 12 noon in the Malad Stake Chapel, 1250 N. 1100 W. Friends may visit with the family at the church Monday from 6-8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad Cemetery.
