Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Delon S Hawkins passed away peacefully on February 23, 2015 after a short battle with cancer. Delon was born on December 5, 1937 in Malad, Idaho to Ephraim and Ethel Hawkins. He had three loving sisters, Orpha (Lloyd) Waldron, Pocatello, ID, Helen (Hyrum) Peterson, Ogden, UT and Kathleen (Larry), Sandy, UT. Delon married Linda Tavey in Salt Lake City on August 25, 1962. Linda preceded him in death on July 8, 1987. He married Pat Cluphf on May 6, 1989 merging two families and gaining two daughters. Delon and Pat were later sealed in the Jordan River Temple. . From a very young age, Delon learned the value of hard work by working on neighboring farms and ranches throughout Malad. While attending Malad High School, Delon was on the football, basketball and track teams. After graduating, he moved to Utah to attend college. Delon was drafted into the United States Army on October 24, 1962. During his enlistment he was stationed for two years at the Pentagon. Delon settled in Murray, Utah. He worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and then spent 21 years working for First Security Bank where he retired in 2001. He was known by his co-workers as a man with high integrity and a good work ethic. Delon’s happiest moments were spent with his loving family at his summer home at Flaming Gorge. He spent many hours patiently teaching his children and grandchildren the art of water skiing. He enjoyed many tranquil hours fishing with his wife Pat. Delon will be fondly remembered enjoying his family and all their shenanigans. One of Delon’s favorite hobbies was woodworking. He was known for creating many treasures which he shared with friends and family. During his illness he created a special heirloom for each of his four daughters Delon is survived by his wife, Pat Hawkins, children Geri (Bob) Braegger, Bountiful, Utah, John D Hawkins, Murray, Utah, Tonja (Craig) Youngberg, Elk Plain, Washington, Heidi (Tom) Short, Layton, Utah and Katrinia (Seth) King, Draper, Utah. He leaves behind a large, extended family including 17 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and grandson Austin Youngberg. A viewing will be held on Friday, February 27, 2015, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 So. State Street. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Murray Hillside Ward Chapel located at 435 East 5600 South, with a viewing prior from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment: Malad City Cemetery with a military graveside service at 3:30.
