Alden ‘Lyle’ Hall

Alden ‘Lyle’ Hall passed away peacefully at Life Care Center in Idaho Falls Idaho on Thursday September 20, 2012 at the age of 91.

Lyle was born the 31st day of May 1921 to Ethel Syrilda Halford and Albert Theodore Hall in a little log cabin at Portage, Utah. He was the 7th of ten children. His youth was spent in Portage, Utah where he loved riding horses and getting into mischief. He attended school in Portage and at Bear River High School. When he was fifteen he started working for wages; pitching hay, hiring out to farms in the area and working on the rail road. At the age of 19 he joined the US Navy, where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War 2 and was later awarded the Purple heart for wounds received in battle.

While home on leave, Dec. 24, 1943, Lyle met a beautiful young woman, Arva Jensen, at a dance. He said it was love at first sight and after a two week courtship they were married Jan. 7th 1944 in Pocatello, Idaho, They were married 61years until Arva passed away on Feb. 5, 2005. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan, Utah temple on Jan. 30, 1957. After his years in the Navy, Lyle and Arva settled down in Malad, Idaho where they spent most of their remaining years except for Lyle’s last few years, when he moved to Idaho Falls Idaho to be closer to his son Alan and his family. Lyle and Arva were blessed with 2 daughters, Gloria, and Lyla and one son Alan.

From an early age until he was no longer able, Lyle loved to fish and hunt. In his later years he also enjoyed golf. He cherished his guitar and had a beautiful baritone voice. He wrote over 25 original songs and performed often at funerals, weddings, reunions and parties. One of his songs “Jack of All Trades” truly told the story of his working life. He was also a gifted artist and did beautiful oil paintings and charcoal and pencil sketches.

Lyle was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life. His music was a blessing there as he served in many different callings. Lyle and Arva served an LDS mission in the “Texas Houston Mission” from 1989-1990. It was a highlight of his life.

Lyle is survived by his 3 children and one daughter in-law, Gloria Lois Burton of Roy, Utah, Lyla Gwen Steed of Roy, Utah, Alan Lyle and Loretta Abbott Hall of Rigby, Idaho, 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Arva, his parents and his 6 brothers and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday Sept. 24th at the Horsley Funeral Home at 12:00 noon. Friends may visit with the family on Monday from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Malad Cemetery.
