A. TOPONCE DIED IN UTAH MARCH 17TH

For Many Years He Took Leading Part In Town’s Commercial Life

Alex Toponce, 54, former Malad business man, died at the home of his daughter at Fillmore, Utah on March 17, 1944. For 20 years Mr. Toponce was a member of the firm of Jones & Toponce, but was forced to sell his interest about six months ago to his partner B.A. Jones, on account of ill health.

Mr. Toponce took a very active part in the commercial life of the town and was one of the organizers and for several years was president of the Boosters Club which later became the Malad Chamber of Commerce. For many years he was a member of the Malad Fire department.

Mr. Toponce was born at Corrine, Utah, January 26, 1890, and moved to Malad about thirty years ago.

He is survived by his widow, his father and mother, two sons, Emmett of Los Angeles, and ivan of Ogden, one daughter, Mrs. Reva Larson of Fillmore, Utah, four grandchildren, six sisters and five brothers.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at Ogden. Among the speakers were Bishp W.W. Thomas and John Blaisdell of Malad. Stillman Harris sang a solo.

The pallbearers were the following Malad men: B.A. Jones, Lyle Tapper, L.J. Williams, William Stuart, James B. Jones and Lawrence Jones.

Malad people who attended the funeral in addition to those mentioned were J.P. Sorenson and wife, Mrs. Lawrence Jones, Evan Vanderwood, Lawrence Budge, Mrs. B.A. Jones and Mrs. Myron Jones. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Walker and Mrs. Alene John of Salt Lake, former Malad residents were also in attendance.
