William Ervin Schiess
VICTOR – William Ervin Schiess, 82, of the Teton Valley, died April 9, 1992, at his home of a lingering illness.
He was born at Victor June 10, 1909, to Ulrich and Alice Victoria Nielson Schiess Jr. He grew up and, attended schools in the Cedron and Victor areas.
He married Ruby Lavaunt Miller June 10, 1932, in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple.
He was active in the LDS Church. He served as a bishop for 13 years and in the bishopric for over 30 years. He served as a high councilman in the Driggs Stake and was active in Scouting, having earned the Silver Beaver award. He served a mission to Germany and to Anchorage, Alaska, with his wife.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and genealogy work.
He is survived by his wife of Victor; eight daughters, Barbara Nethercott of Polson, Mont., Carmen Anderson of Brigham City, Utah, Mrs. Peter (Ramona) McDougall of Pocatello, LaWanna Walker of Trenton, Utah, Elizabeth Mickelsen – of Smithfield, Utah, Mrs. Raymond (Francis) Cox of Lead, S.D., Mrs. Ryan (Connie) Kearsley of Victor, and Jacque Schiess of Idaho Falls; two sons, William J. Schiess of Rexburg and Lorin Schiess of Driggs; 40 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers, four sisters, a son, two granddaughters, and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be Monday at 1 p.m. at the Victor LDS Church with Bishop Arlo Moffat officiating. The family will meet with friends at the church tonight from 7 to 9 and Monday from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Burial will be in the Cedron Cemetery under the direction of the Wade Funeral Home of Driggs.
