Helen Virginia Shurtleff Budge


Helen Virginia Shurtleff Budge, a 92 year old Orem and former longtime Burley, Idaho, resident died Tuesday, October 7, 1997 at the Beehive Home in Orem, Utah.
She was born July 29, 1905 in Lyman, Idaho, the daughter of Horace and Inga Hepstead Shurtleff. She married Rulon R. Budge on June 27, 1929 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on November 28, 1971. Following their marriage they lived in Logan, Utah, Malad, Idaho, and Sugar City, Idaho before moving to burley, Idaho in 1939 where she resided throughout most of her remaining years. She was educated in the Weber County schools and attended Weber College in Ogden, Utah. She also attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah; and received a BA degree from Idaho State University in Pocatello, Idaho. She taught elementary education in Weber County schools and later taught for nineteen years in the Cassia County schools. Helen was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved to read and sew. She was a member of the Cassia Pink Lady’s Auxiliary, a volunteer at the Burley Public Library, a longtime member of the Burley Literary Club and a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She was a devoted member of the LDS Church, a student of the scriptures, and had served in a variety of church capacities through the years.
Survivors include two daughters: Joyce Robinson, Roswell, Georgia; and Marilyn Larson, of Salem, Oregon; two sons, Dr. Gerald S. Budge, St. George, Utah; Steven R. Budge, Orem, Utah; a brother, Dr. William H. Shurtleff, Harrisville, Utah; 19 grandchildren; and 22 grandchildren. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 1997, at the Burley 3rd and 7th Ward Chapel, 2200 Oakley Avenue, Burley, Idaho with Bishop Darrell Roskelley officiating. Burial will follow in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Burley, Idaho. Friends may call at the Payne Mortuary, 221 West Main Street in Burley, Idaho, on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the church from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the funeral on Saturday.
