Dr. S. Willard Price
Dr. S. Willard Price, 91, of 62 Banbury Drive, a retired school superintendent and professor of educational administration, died of infirmities Friday morning[November 16, 1990] in Northside Medical Center.
Dr. Price was born November 20, 1898, in Malad, Idaho, a son of Samuel and Matilda Gleed Price, and he came to Youngstown upon his retirement in 1967. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the University of Idaho and his doctorate in 1932 from Yale University.
From 1934 to 1958, he taught or held administrative positions in Connecticut’s secondary schools and colleges.
From 1958 to 1967, he taught educational administration and finance at the Rutgers University graduate school.
He was a member of Kappa Delta Phi fraternity and Phi Beta Kappa academic honor society and a former director of Putnam Trust Co. of Greenwich, Connecticut. He was a member of the American Association of School Administrators and a member and past president of the Connecticut Association of Public Schools Superintendents and the Yale Alumni Association.
He was past president of the Rotary Club of New Britain and a member of the New Britain Executive Club. He was a World War I Navy veteran.
He leaves his wife, the former Anna Gundersen, whom he married December 27, 1921; a daughter, Mrs. Thella M. Groves of Boardman; a sister, Mrs. Mary Petersen of Tucson, Arizona; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Fox Funeral Home on Monday, October 8th. Interment was in the Forest Lawn Cemetery.
