HARRIS, THAYNE STUART, August 24, 1926 – July 31, 2006

OGDEN – Thayne Stuart Harris, 79, died Monday, July 31, 2006 at Crestwood Care Center in Ogden. Thayne was born in Salt lake City, Utah August 24, 1926, a son of George Ellis and Hanna Stuart Harris. He was raised in Woodruff, Idaho, attending public schools in Malad, Idaho. He graduated from Malad High School in 1944. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II. Upon his military discharge, he attended Utah State University where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in business and a minor in economics. Following graduation he moved to Ogden and began a 40 plus year career with Prudential Insurance Company.

He married Janet Farr, June 9, 1955 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She preceded him in death on March 16, 1996.

Thayne was a jack-of-all trades. He owned and operated the Country Side Campgrounds, the Stone Works Masonry, a snow removal business, in addition to operating dry farms in Portage and Washakie, Utah where he also raised cattle.

His favorite hobbies were hunting, fishing and working. He loved to shoot the breeze and this earned him the nickname “Windy”. When telling a story, Thayne never let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Thayne was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities and was willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Thayne was very well known in the area and had many friends.

Thayne is survived by his son, James T. (Jodee) Harris, Harrisville; daughter Michelle (Steven) Racker, Layton; his grandchildren, Tucker, Katie, Nick, Blair, Todd, Joe and Olivia; and his brothers Grant and Gary.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Weber Heights Stake Center. Friends may call at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday at the Ward Chapel. Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
