Dennis N. Atkinson

Dennis N. Atkinson, 83, passed away peacefully at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Ogden, on Wednesday, July 20, 2011. He was born February 8, 1928 in Malad, Idaho, a son of Alfred Levi and Annie Rachel Nielsen Atkinson. He grew up in Samaria, Idaho and spent his childhood working on the family farm. Dennis graduated from Malad High School.

He attended Utah State Agricultural College and BUY. Dennis served an LDS mission in Sweden for a period of 2 ½ years. He returned home and served a short tour of duty with the U.S. Army, training in the infantry, and received an honorable discharge in October, 1953.

On February 1, 1957 Dennis married Remona Wardell in the Salt lake LDS Temple. They moved several times during their early married years, finally settling in Smithfield in 1963. They were later divorced. Together they had four children.

Dennis purchased a truck and milk hauling route in the Malad area, delivering to Cache Valley D airy for 13 years. Dennis owned and operated Denny’s Mowing and Tilling in Smithfield. His 1946 Chevy dump truck, International tractor and trailer were recognized.

Dad was an active member of the LDS Church. He served in various callings and was a High Priest and dedicated home teacher. He enjoyed classic cars and was a good mechanic.

He is survived by his children, Steven (Kaye) Atkinson, Brigham City; Kathryn (Dale) Densley, Alpine; Joyce (Dave) Pierson, North Ogden; Brian (Louise) Atkinson, West Jordan; 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Muirbrook, West Warren, Utah, brothers Gerald (Carol) Atkinson, Holladay, Utah; Keith (Carolyn) Atkinson, Pleasantview, Idaho.
