William David ‘Bill’ Bowen
William David “Bill” Bowen of Downey, Idaho, passed away Wednesday, August 22, 2001, in the Oneida County Hospital in Malad, Idaho of cancer.
He was born May 19, 1924, in Downey, Idaho, a son of Henry “Harry” and Jennie Bowen. He was raised in Downey and was a 1942 graduate of Downey High School. He served in the Navy during World War II, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He married Ida Boshart of Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, on July 2, 1952.
He worked as a meat cutter, starting in Downey, and moving to Malad, Ogden, Logan, Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Nev., and ending his career back in Downey and Malad. He was a member of the American Legion, Portneuf Post 21 (Downey). He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and helping his many friends.
He is survived by his son, Steven Bowen of Las Vegas, Nevada; and two daughters, Connie Wiseman of Carson City, Nevada, and Patricia (Jerry) Morris of Thcson, Arizona; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Jean) Bowen of Downey, Idaho, and Ben (Marion) Bowen of Downey, Idaho; two sisters, Harriet “Lou” (Ursel) Steed of Downey, Idaho, and Jean Lazusky of Pocatello, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, La Ree Wise, one brother, Max Bowen, and his son, Robert Bowen.
Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. in the Downey LDS Ward Chapel. Friends may call at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview Drive, Arimo, Sunday evening, Aug. 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Monday at the church in Downey from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Burial with military rites will be in the Downey Cemetery following the service.
