Wilford John Dredge

Wilford John Dredge, 82, of Soda Springs, passed away Saturday, August 15,1992, at the LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City due to complications following heart surgery.
He was born December 1, 1909, at Malad, Idaho, a son of Jesse Horatio and Eliza Rosetta Kunz Dredge. His mother passed away when he was five years old, and he was raised by his stepmother, Nellie Knuz Dredge. He married Vera May Allen September 29, 1936, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He had lived in Malad, Idaho until 1936, when he moved to Soda Springs, where he had since resided, and spent winters in Fruit Heights, Utah since N77. He was educated in Malad, Idaho schools and attended Brigham Young University.
He was a high priest in the Soda Springs LDS First Ward. He had served as a youth leader, scoutmaster, bishop, stake president and temple officiator. He had served an LDS mission to New Zealand in 1930, and returned in 1975 for a second mission with his wife, Vera. He had spent the latter years doing family history research.
He was a rancher his entire life, and had served on the China Hat school board, was a member of the Caribou County Commission, state legislator, president of the Long Valley Cattlemen’s Association, board member and president of the Idaho Citizens’ Grazing Association, Caribou County hospital board, and member of the local civic clubs. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, ranching, Glee Club, singing, and watching his grandchildren participate in their various activities.
He is survived by his wife, Vera, of Soda Springs; three sons and two daughters and their spouses, W. Lynn and Annette Dredge, Tulare, California, R. Alan and Cheryl Dredge. Temecula, California, Bruce M. and Martha Dredge, Soda Springs, Diane and Chad Smith, West Bountiful, Utah, and Karen Fryar, Boring, Oregon; 26 grand-children; 24 great-grandchildren; one brother and eight sisters, Calvin Dredge, Soda Springs, Ellen Castleton and Hettie Barnes, both of Salt Lake City, Mary Crowther, Orem , Utah, Thelma Gibbs, Portage, Utah, Ruth Swanson, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Rose Ward and Norma Hill, both of St. George, Utah, and Elaine Mills, Malad. He was preceded in death by his parents, step mother, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, August 19 at the Soda Springs LDS First and Fifth Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Fairview Cemetery in Soda Springs.
