Wayne Nielsen

Arimo….Wayne Nielsen, 93, of Arimo and longtime Marsh Valley educator, passed away on Wednesday [July 15, 2009] of heart failure. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 20, 2009, at 12 noon in the Arimo LDS Stake Chapel. Friends may visit with the Nielsen family on Sunday evening from 6-8 pm at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home 570 N. Meadowview Dr. in Arimo, and on Monday at the church prior to services from 10:30-11:30 am.

Wayne Nielsen joined his wife, family and friends as he passed from this life to the next on Wednesday, July 15, 2009. Children, grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends will feel his loss.
He was born to Curtis and Ivy Lusk Nielsen on July 1, 1916 in Malad City, Idaho. He grew u p in St. John, Idaho, where he attended elementary school. He graduated from Malad High School in 1934 and Albion State Normal School in 1937. He later received his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Idaho State College.
He married Elda Ruger on January 29, 1938. They were later sealed in the Logan Temple on March 24, 1967. She passed away in March 203. They were married for 65 years.
They have three children: Andrea (Wiley) Watkins, Pasadena, MD; Don (Joyce) Nielsen, Lava Hot Springs; Ivalue (Dale) Hatch, Arimo. He has 10 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Verna Darrow of Castleford, Idaho.
Wayne was an educator for more than 40 years, including principal of Marsh Valley High School for 22 years, and he later was on the school board, where he served as chairman. While in education he received many awards for serving on many committees, both on the local and state levels. He touched the lives of many young people throughout his years as teacher, coach and principal.
He was a high priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings in both the stake and ward.
He was preceded in death by h is wife, his parents and one sister, Fern Wight.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Monday, July 20, 2009 at the Arimo Stake Center. A viewing will be held Sunday, July 19 at the Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 N. Meadowview Drive in Arimo, from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Monday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Arimo Stake Center prior to the funeral. Burial will be at 3 p.m. at the Malad City Cemetery.
