Our beloved mother, Wanda Napier Wharton passed away peacefully and returned to her Heavenly Father after 94 years on this earth, February 2, 2010.
She was born December 21, 1915, in Woodruff, Idaho to Arthur Miner and Sarah Cecil Moss Ward. She was the oldest child in a family of six girls and one boy. She attended school in Woodruff and graduated from Malad High School.
She married David Burton Napier on November 9, 1933. He died January 16, 1977. She married Verdie Estes Wharton on July 17, 1982. He died September 14, 1989.
Mother lived on a farm all her life and was taught the value of hard work at a very young age. She raised her family the same way.
She worked outside the home at J.C. Penney’s and was a deputy sheriff for 30 years in Malad City, Idaho.
Mother was an ambassador for those things in life that mattered most. Her thoughts and actions revolved around serving and nurturing others. She created a home based on the teachings of Jesus Christ through her actions, and she taught her children the importance of faith, prayer, compassion and love.
She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in many callings including the Primary, MIA, Relief Society and music director. She also served a two-year stake mission.
She is survived by a son, Bardell (Emogene) Napier; daughters, Ilene (Doyle) Wharton, and Deanna (Seymour) Obiad; 16 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. Verdie’s children: Helen Moser, Ethelene Worton; Darrel (Claudine) Wharton; Erma (Clyde) Ashcroft; Aleta (Jon) Thompson; Wanda King; Lucy Westerberg; Dale (Trene) Wharton and all their children and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one brother five sisters, four brothers-in-law, granddaughter, and two great grandsons.
I’m sure she had a great reunion with her family that had gone on before her.
Our family would like to extend our thanks and love to the staff of the Oneida County Nursing Home for the wonderful care they gave our mother.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 6, 2010 at noon in the Malad Fifth Ward.
