Wanda Jones Edwards

Wanda Jones Edwards, 92, passed away peacefully in her home in Malad, Idaho on Saturday, January 23, 2021. She was a leap year baby, born on February 29, 1928 in her parent’s, Harvey and Catherine (Cass) Jones, home 2 miles north of Malad City, the youngest of five children.

Wanda grew up from early spring through late fall on the ranch. From a young age she loved animals, horse rides, harvesting on the combine and helping with farm work. Winters were spent living in town and caring for her grandmothers.

Lifetime close friends were made attending Malad schools. Cheerleading, ball games, dances at Lagrande Hall, swimming at Downata and attending parties were her favorite places to spend time. After graduation and returning from employment in California, the courtship with Gene Edwards began. They were married on Valentine’s Day in 1948 and later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Gene and Wanda grew together working and serving the community they loved and lived in their entire lives. From her first job as a teen making and pouring soda into bottles at Ernest Horsley’s Grocery Store, an operator at the first telephone office in town and secretary at First Bank and Trust, knowing and taking care of the locals was important and enjoyable. She loved singing in the local community choir and in a trio with Helen Jones and Miriel Dredge for many years at funerals and church gatherings.

Wanda was a classy, dedicated and supportive wife and mother. Her entire life was spent giving, encouraging, and wanting the best for others. Many hours were spent with children and grandchildren at ball games, rodeos, recitals, playing cards, chatting on the porch and always making feel you loved and included, even if you had walked in as a stranger. She loved creating an orderly, beautiful home and yard. Vacations with sisters, nieces and friends were cherished times.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Wanda served in many capacities including Primary teacher, Relief Society president, Relief Society Stake Board, MIA and Young Women’s President, and 30 years as a chorister. Her genuine love of extraction, family history and genealogy work was culminated with 8 years as an ordinance worker in the Logan temple.

She is survived by her loving husband, Gene Edwards and children Tim (Jan) Edwards of Malad, Steven (Jean) Edwards of Logan, Utah and Trudy (Randy) Austin of Weston, Idaho, 10 Grandchildren and 35 Great-Grandchildren

Wanda is preceded in death by her son – Jimmie; parents, sisters – Dorthea, Mae, Lona;, and brother – Richard Jones.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the Nell J. Redfield Memorial (Malad) Hospital and nurses for their many years of kindness with the arthritis treatments and occasional hospital stays. Thanks to Brittny Hubbard and Courtney Carter for the care and love shared the past few months.
