Vorris ‘Dick’ D. Justesen

Brigham City, Utah – Vorris “Dick” D. Justesen, 96, our wonderful husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Monday, September 14, 1998, in Brigham City.

He was born on April 13, 1902, in Redmond, Utah, a son of Peter Antone and Mary Ann Owen Justesen.

Dick married Leah S. Larsen on March 3, 1921, in Logan, Utah. She passed away on October 1, 1973. He then married Audrey Humphrey on March 16, 1974, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was reared in Fielding and Magna, Utah. He had lived in Honeyville, Utah, Malad, and Salt Lake City before moving to Brigham City.

Dick was an active member of the LDS Church. He was a High Priest in the Brigham City 19th Ward. He had served as counselor in the Malad 2nd Ward, as Sunday School Superintendent, and as a home teacher all his life. He had also worked with the Boy Scouts for many years.

He served on the Malad City Council, as Oneida County Farm Bureau President, as American Red Cross Chairman, and as PTA President in Malad.

Dick worked at the Hotel Utah as a head housekeeper for over 20 years. He had been a Beekeeper in his early years.

He was an avid gardener and shared his harvest with friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his wife of Brigham City, one son and two daughters: Vorris Dee (Sammie) Justesen of Wilmington, Delaware; Marie J. (Henry) Gleed of Malad, Idaho; June J. (Ernest) Summers of Orem, Utah. One step-son and one step-daughter: Jerry A. (Grace) Johnson of Dallas, Texas and Carolyn (Don) Sharp of Ogden, Utah. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

Dick was the last surviving sibling of nine brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Thursday, September 17, in Brigham City. Interment was in the Pleasantview Cemetery, Malad, Idaho.
