Virgil C. Harris

SALT LAKE CITY – Virgil C. Harris, 80, of Salt Lake City, formerly of Portage, died Saturday, March 9, 1985, in a Salt Lake City nursing home of Alzheimer ’s disease.
He was born June 26, 1905, in Portage, a son of William Daniel and Zina Gibbs Harris.
He married Maude Rees on April 10, 1929, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
He was reared and educated in Portage where he had lived until 2% years ago when he and his wife moved to Salt Lake City.
He was an active member of the LDS Church. He had served as Sunday School president and home teacher in the Portage Ward.
He owned and operated a grain cleaning business for 40 years, retiring in 1980.
Surviving are his widow of Salt Lake City; two sons and one daughter, Virgil Reid Harris, Oklahoma City, Okla; Phil R. Harris, Salt Lake City; Mrs. E.L. (Carol) Pettingill, Zillah, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are three brothers and four sisters, Orville J. Harris, Twin Falls, Idaho; Wendell L. Harris, Spring field, Ore; Mrs. Con (Ulalla) Hansen and Mrs. Lee (Evelyn) Fuhriman, both of Tremonton; Mrs. Charles (Marjorie) Ward, Green Valley, Ariz.; Mrs. LeOra Moore, Idaho Falls, Idaho.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at 12 noon at the Portage Ward Chapel with Bishop Larry L. Howell officiating.
