Viola Thomas Ward

Malad – Viola Thomas Ward passed away Wednesday, October 14, 1998 in the Oneida County Care Center.
Viola was born in Malad on March 21, 1905, the daughter of David R. and Phoebe John Thomas. She was the ninth of 10 children. She spent her younger years helping at home and doing chores typical of that time.
Viola worked at Fred’s Cafe in Malad until she was married. On May 28, 1924, she married George Merlin Ward in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Ward died June 17, 1988.
Viola worked with her husband in his farming and ranching endeavors, and had made her home and family her lifelong work.
Survivors are five daughters, Mrs. Rene (Melba) Deschamps, Mrs. Cleland (Neva) Jones, Mrs. George W. (Judy) Jones, Malad; Ms. Betty Jean Van Horn, Jack-son, Wyoming; and Mrs. Lois Davis, Riverdale, Utah. In addition to her daughters, there are 21 grandchildren, 67 great-grand-children and 38 great-great-grand-children.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 17, 1998.
