Viola Mary “Lola Mae” Peterson Bateman

MAGNA, UT – Viola Mary “Lola Mae” Peterson Bateman passed away from natural causes on November 30, 2012. She was born January 25, 1920 in Malad, Idaho to Sanford M. and Mary Ellen Thomas Peterson. Lola married the love of her life, Rex Allen Bateman, April 16, 1940 in Garfield, UT and was a long time resident of Magna, UT.

As a young girl, Lola loved visiting her grandparent’s farm in Malad where she rode horses and gathered in the cows. She was an executive secretary for ten years at Tooele Army Depot. She was very proud of her many official commendation letters.

Lola loved traveling, cruises, dancing and Wendover. Lola, Rex and the boys did a lot of camping. They took many trips to Yellowstone and were survivors of the 6.9 earthquake in 1959. She helped prepare food and was spotlighted on national television, washing dishes at the slide area survivor’s camp.

Lola leaves behind her sons, Lance (Sue), Layne (Jerry), Greg (Chris), Mark (Nancy), ten grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and cousins. She loved them all very much. Lola was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Rex, and her siblings, Wayne, Don, Dewey and Norma Ruth.

Our heartfelt appreciation to Beehive Homes of West Jordan and Encompass Hospice for the tender loving care they provided for our mom. Also, a special thanks to Sanford and Leslie Robinson for the love and countless miles they gave their Aunt Lola Mae so she could “go for a ride”.

Graveside services will be held at Midvale Cemetery on December 5, 2012.
