Verl Grant Williams

Verl Grant Williams 80, passed away Nov. 6, 2016 at the Peach Tree Place Assisted Living in West Haven, Utah. He was born to LaVeda E. & William J. Williams on May 20, 1936 in Malad, Idaho the youngest of 7 children. He was educated in Malad and graduated from Malad High school in 1954 where he was a member of the football and boxing team.

He joined the Air Force in 1955 and served in Colorado, Japan, and Westover Air Force Base in Massachusetts. He was introduced to Frances Elizabeth Cowan at that time and after a brief courtship they were married September 13, 1958.

He completed his service in 1959 and brought his bride back to Malad, where they resided together for over 55 years. Together they raised 3 children.

Verl was employed by Thiokol Corporation and worked as a millwright for 33 years and retired in 1992. He obtained his CDL and enjoyed driving truck and school bus for many years.

Verl proudly served as a member of the Malad Volunteer Fireman for 14 years. He also enjoyed his service on the Oneida County Fair Board. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

When he retired from Thiokol, he and Fran spent many camping and fishing trips with his siblings and their spouses. He loved to go fishing and especially fly fishing.

Verl loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them participating in anything. He and Fran would travel all over to support and cheer them on.

He is survived by his children; Vicky (David) Kent, Andrea (Parry) Bartle, Douglas Williams, grandchildren; Nathan (Nicole) Kent, Preston (Lisa) Kent, Jenna (Skylar) Stewart, Rachel (Blake) Baker, Steven Bartle, Michael Bartle, and 2 great grandchildren Alexa Stewart & Conner Kent, and a brother Ralph Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, grandson Jordan Bartle, brothers: Dale, TL, Jack, Melvin, and sister Mary.

A viewing will be held Friday November 11, 2016 from 7-8 pm and Saturday November 12, 2016 from 11:30 -12:45 pm at the Horsley Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday November 12, 2016 at 1:00 pm at the Horsley Funeral Home. Interment at the Malad City Cemetery.
