Vera May Allen Dredge

SODA SPRINGS – Vera May Allen Dredge, 97, of Soda springs, Caribou County, ID, passed away June 21, 2012 at St. Mark’s Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT.

She was born December 15, 1914 in Portage, Box Elder, Utah, the daughter of Isaac William Allen and Frances Letitia Gibbs. Vera was the 7th of 8 siblings. She married Wilford John Dredge on September 29, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the parents of five children: Wilford Lynn (Annette Kelly), Tulare, CA; Richard Alan (Cheryl Ann Lawrence), St. George, UT; Dianne (Chad Smith), West Bountiful, UT; Bruce Marlin (Martha Lee Johns), Soda Springs, ID; Karen Fryar, St. George, UT. She was a devoted mother and grandmother of 26 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.

Vera grew up on a small ranch and farm near Portage, UT, where she experienced the many challenges of early ranching. She lived the majority of her life in Soda Springs ranching side-by-side with her husband, Wilford, while raising their five children. Vera lived an exemplary life of service to her family and friends. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served in many capacities. Along with her husband, Wilford, she served a two year mission for the church at the Auckland New Zealand Temple (1974-76).

Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford, her son, Bruce, two grandchildren, and all of her siblings and their spouses. Although Vera’s primary residence was in Soda Springs, she also spent time in St. George and West Bountiful, UT with her children.

Funeral services will be held in Soda Springs on June 27, 2012 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Stake Center. The burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery, Soda Springs, ID.
