Vera Maria Jones Vaughan

Vera Maria Jones Vaughan, 93, of Malad, died Friday, April 9, 1993, in the Oneida County Hospital. She was born December 29, 1899, in Malad, a daughter of Hugh William and Margaret Mae Palmer Jones.
She was raised and educated in Malad and was a graduate of Malad High School, where she was valedictorian.

She attended Links Business College in Boise, Idaho. She worked for the City National Bank in Jerome, Idaho for about 1 1/2 years and then returned to Malad and worked for John Clark Law office and Evans Coop for a short time. She then worked for Jedd Jones (Jones Brothers Mill and Elevator Company) for several years.

She married James Gordon Vaughan, June 28, 1928, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Mr. Vaughan died September 8, 1986.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-day-Saints and had served as Stake Primary Board Member, Relief Society President, Counselor, Secretary and in various other callings. Except for the few years she lived away, she was a member of Malad 1st Ward from her birth and throughout her life.

Mrs. Vaughan was an officer of the Malad Garden Club and a member of the Oneida County War Mothers.

She is survived by one son, two daughters, and their spouses, J. Gordon and Valmai Vaughan, North Ogden; Mrs. Martin (Cheryldene) Johnson, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Curtis (Lois) Hoskins, El Paso, Texas; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Russell (Annis) Fowles, Caldwell, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers, one sister, one grandson and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 12, 1993 in the Malad LDS 1st Ward Chapel. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
