Valerie Burnett

LOGAN – Valerie Burnett, 86, of Logan, died peacefully at her home on July 9, 2002. She was born may 2, 1916 in Mendon, UT, the second child of Gwen Dolan and Lucille Bird Hardman. Her early years were spent in Mendon, UT and Arbon, ID. She graduated from South Cache High in 1934 and attended Brigham Young University.

She married Carl Burnett on December 3, 1936 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with two daughters. In 1939, they moved to Midvale, UT and then to Brigham City in 1956. After retirement, she and Carl moved to Logan and spent their winters in St. George.

She was an active member of the LDS Church where she served in the Primary as a teacher and counselor in the stake, Relief Society secretary and visiting teacher. She also served in the Brigham City Tabernacle Mission for eight years. She has a very strong testimony and love for the gospel.

She was a devoted wife and mother to her family her entire life. She was a wonderful cook and a very efficient homemaker. She enjoyed serving, handwork, reading, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters: Gwen Oakeson (Ken), Brigham City, UT and Dalene Hansen (Reid), Farmington, UT; one brother, Russell Hardman, Pocatello, ID; two sisters, Lois Layne and LaDonna Plowman, Logan, UT; eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one brother and a grandson.

Funeral services were held July 13, 2002 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Logan. Burial was in the Brigham City Cemetery.
