Ursel Steed

Downey…..Ursel Steed, 85 of Downey, husband of the late Lueen “Lou” Bowen Steed, passed away on January 8, 2011 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the University of Utah Medical Center. He was born June 16, 1925 in Plymouth, Utah, a son of James and Annie Rose Steed. As a young man the family moved to McCammon and then to Virginia, Idaho. He was drafted into the U. S. Army during WWII, where he served as a medic in Okinowa, Japan. Whle attending to an injured soldier, he was shot in the back by a sniper for which he received a Purple Heart medal. He was discharged in 1946 and received an Asiatic Pacific service medal, good conduct medal and a Victory medal. In 1957 he married Harriet Lueen Bowen, and had since resided in Downey. Lou passed away in 2002. Ursel was employed with the Idaho Depatment of Agriculture as a Potatoe Inspector for over 40 years. During those years he also farmed on the family farm in Virginia. He enjoyed hunting, loved fishing and the outdoors. He also loved his cat “Shadow”, who was his special companion. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was especially proud to be a Veteran of WWII. He is survived by his children; Byron (Tracy) Steed of Downey; Susan Steed and husband Dave Martin of Boise; 3 step children; Jeanie (Neil) Coleman of Weston, CT. Peggy (John) Wiegand of Meridian, Idaho and Nancy Nadolski and husband Steve Severn of Boise. 5 grandchildren 5 step grandchildren. 6 great grandchildrern and 5 step great grandchildren. 1 sister; Flora Lattemore of Pocatello. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Lueen; 2 grandsons, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. Funeral services will be held on thursday January 13, 2011 at 12 noon in Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home 570 N. Meadowview Dr. in Arimo. Friends may visit with the familt on hursday prior to services from 10:30-11:45 am. Burial will follow in the Downey City Cemetery.
