Thora Bailey Brown

POCATELLO, Idaho – Thora Bailey Brown, 90, of Pocatello, passed away Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Portneuf Medical Center following an illness.

She was born June 27, 1914, in Arbon, Idaho, the daughter of Lorin H. and Claribel Bolingbroke Bailey.

She attended schools in Pocatello and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1932.

She was working for Orange Transportation in Pocatello when she met Roy R. Brown Sr. in 1939 and they were married on June 6, 1943 in Pocatello, Idaho. They had three children, Mary Susan, Roy Russell, and Bruce. Thora and Roy were later divorced.

She worked for Clark Real Estate in 1954 and later worked as a legal secretary for Louis Racine for 27 years. She was member of the LDS Church. She taught Sunday School for 10 years and was a teacher in MIA.

She served as Relief Society President and Primary President at the same time while living in Evansville, Ind. She was a script for Calvin McComber two years before she was married and again from 1954 to 1980, while he was the Stake Patriarch.

She enjoyed reading, cooking and traveling. She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren and she was loved dearly by her family and all who knew her.

At 90 years old, she was still managing her home, doing the laundry, cooking her meals, paying bills, and being an inspiration to her family.

She is survived by two sons, R. Russell (Edie) Brown, Simi Valley, Calif.; Bruce B. (Kandie) Brown, Pocatello, Idaho; 8 grandchildren, Ronda (Mike) Hill; T.J. Brown; Jarod (Amy) Brown; Niccole Brown; Tiffiani (Shane) Wilkey; Adam (Shai) Brown; Benjaman Brown; Matthew Brown; four great-grandchildren, Jaden Brown; Isaac Brown; Madison Wilkey; Ava Wilkey; three nieces, Donna Smith; Marsha (Ron) Losser; Tammy (Robert) Christensen: one nephew, Rodney (Kathy) Crochett. She was preceded in death by her parents, on daughter, three sisters, one brother.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Cedar 3rd Ward Chapel (550 West Cedar) with Bishop Tony Barela officiating. The family will receive friends Monday evening, Jan. 24, 2005, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and on Tuesday from 12 to 12:45 p.m. at the church.

Interment will be in the Mountainview Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel.
