Sybil Salvesen Hadley

Sybil Georgiana Salvesen Hadley, 94, passed away peacefully at her daughter’s home with her loving family surrounding her on Sunday, February 22, 2009. She passed away 11 days after her husband, Fred.

She was born April 13, 1914, in Downey, Idaho, the daughter of George and Elizabeth Johnson Salvesen. She was raised on the farm and later moved into Downey. She met Fred Hadley and became his wife February 3, 1934. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. On January 31, 2009, they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary with an open house and family dinner in Downey.

To this marriage they added two children, Dennis Hadley (deceased), wife, Joy and Diane Mikesell, husband, Bill. Mom had 10 grandchildren, Dennis and Joy’s children are Curtiss (deceased), Garth and wife, Joanne, Neal, Andrea and husband, Rick Baird, Audrey and husband, Creed Curtis and DaNae and husband, Steve Young, and Diane and Bill’s children are Trisha and husband, Wade Lowry, Tyler and wife, Angie, Trent and wife, Kara, and Troy, 28 great-grandchildren with one more on the way, and three great-great-grandchildren, with another one on the way.

They had lived in Downey for the majority of their lives. They lived on a dairy farm and Sybil worked at the local J. C. Penney’s and was a clerk for the United States Postal Service. She was active in the Bannock County Fair and 4-H program, serving as a 4-H leader for many years. This past August, during South Bannock Fair week, Sybil and Fred were the grand marshals for the parade.

She was very active in the LDS Church, serving in the Young Women, Primary and Relief Society. She was a member of the Madrigal Choir and spent many years sharing her musical voice with others. She loved to read, clean, and spend time with her family.She is survived by a daughter, Diane; son-in-law, Bill; daughter-in-law, Joy; nine grandchildren, and all the great- and great-great-grandchildren; also, sisters-in-law, Lola Salvesen, Downey, Idaho, Camille Hadley, Spanish Fork, Utah, Veda Hadley, Othello, Washington; and brother-in-law, Earl Peterson, Tremonton, Utah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred, son, Dennis, grandson, Curtis, and parents, also 10 brothers and sisters, Helma, LeRoy, Rachel, George, Vesta, Verda, Mabel, Orville, Herman, and Con, and many other dear and precious family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, February 27, 2009, at the Downey LDS Chapel. The family will meet family and friends Friday from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. prior to the services. Burial will be in the Downey Cemetery in Downey, Idaho. The family would like to thank all of those who shared such great friendships and love with our mother and grandmother. She was truly a sweet woman and we were blessed to have her example in our lives.
