Steven “Craig” Daniels

On June 8th, 1992, at the young age of 44, Steven “Craig” Daniels, my husband, our son, father, grandfather, brother and good friend, left this earth after finally receiving the precious gift of a new heart.

Craig, known for his zest for life, fought valiantly to be able to spend more time with his family here on earth. The shock and impact of his leaving at this time has left a deep void in our lives. We miss and love him more than words could ever express.

Craig was born on July 31, 1947, in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of DeVon and Ina Yearsley Daniels. He attended schools and lived in Idaho Falls and Malad, Idaho; Ogden, Utah and Ely, Nevada. He was a 1965 graduate of Malad High School, where he enjoyed a successful athletic career. Craig continued his love for sports throughout his entire life.

On June 20, 1965, Craig married his high school classmate and friend, Linda Kay John and they made their first home in Ogden, where he continued his education at Weber State College.

His love for the Malad Valley and fondness of the family farm brought him “back home” in 1968 where he commuted to a career that spanned 20 years as an Electronics Technician at Hill Force Base in Roy, Utah. His job enabled him to visit and work in many different areas of the United States and included trips to Spain and Iceland.

Craig was always extremely proud of his three children and was a wonderful father.

His talents and interests were many. He had served as a respected Little League Coach; member of the Oneida County Recreation Board for many years; secretary to the Oneida County Fair Board for six years; director and manager of the Eastern Idaho State Race meet for two years; member of the Oneida County Task Force and commentator/announcer of Malad High School athletic events.

He was currently serving his second term as Malad City Councilman, a position he was honored to hold. He also owned and operated Oneida Simulcast Racing for the past year and a half and continued his favorite occupation of trying to run a successful farm operation.

He is survived and deeply missed by his wife, Linda of Malad; one son and daughter-in-law, Brett Craig and Gay Lynn Daniels, Logan; and two daughters, Mrs. Eldon (Jody Daniels) Roe of Hyrum, and Mindy Sue Daniels of Malad; three granddaughters that he adored: Kristin and Kelsie Daniels and Kaitlyn Roe; his parents, DeVon and Ina of North Ogden; one brother, Kevin of Malad; and one sister, Sandy Foxley of Layton.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at noon in the Malad LDS Second/Fifth Ward Chapel. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
