Shirley Byington (1905)

OGDEN, Ut- Shirley Byington, 94, our dear dad and grandfather, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2000, in Ogden.
He was born June 22, 1905 in Rockland, Idaho, the 11th of 18 children born to Joseph H. and Mary Ann Lasley Byington. He attended school in Rockland and Asequia, Idaho.
Shirley married Edith Udy on April 20, 1925, in Rupert, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS temple on September 13, 1950. Prior to Edith’s death on February 22, 1999, they had been married for 74 years.
He spent his life living in many towns in Utah, Idaho, and Nevada. Part of his life was spent as a successful farmer. He worked for the City of Clearfield in the Maintenance Department. For a number of years, he and his wife owned and operated the Pink Bunny Drive Inn in Clearfield. Later in life, he and his wife moved to Ogden where he resided until his death. He was a very hard-working, busy person who was always on the move. He made improvements at every place where he lived and always enjoyed helping people.
Shirley was a member of the LDS Church where he served in many positions.
Shirley loved planting a garden and, at the time of his death, had planted part of his garden. He loved to hunt, fish and enjoyed making doll furniture for his grandchildren.
Surviving are two daughters and three sons, Norma (Mike) Ashworth, Lake Point, Utah; Udene ( Dan) Slama, Ogden; LaMoyne ( Shirley) Byington, Boise, Idaho; DeVerl ( Joan) Byington, Pleasant Grove; Roy ( Margene) Byington, Riverdale; 23 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Shirley’s wife, parents, brothers and sisters have all preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held Monday at 12 noon at the Rockland, Idaho Ward Chapel.
Friends may call at Lindquist’s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 N. 400 E., Sunday from 6-8 p.m. and at the Rockland Ward Chapel on Monday from 11 to 11:45 a.m.
Interment, Rockland, Idaho City Cemetery.
