Robert Kerry Davis

Robert Kerry Davis, age 67, died of cancer on May 9, 2015 in Vernonia, Oregon. He was born in Malad, Idaho, on November 1, 1947. His parents were Robert K . Davis and Delma D. Davis. His grandparents were Evelyn (Kerns) and Griff Davis of Malad and Stuart and Alice (Randal) Davis of Pleasantview,
Idaho. Kerry’s Jones and Daniels families were pioneers of the Malad Valley.
He lived his early years in Malad and started school here. His family eventually moved to St. Helens, Oregon. He graduated from St. Helens High School where he was an outstanding athlete in basketball and track. He attended Longview Columbia College.
In 1968 he entered the U.S. Army. He served in Vietnam where his work included being a Crew Chief on a Huey helicopter. His group was AHC 119. He
received medals for service in Vietnam including the Medal of Valor. He served in the Army for four years. His name is included on the Oneida County Veterans Memorial. He was a disabled veteran from his service in Vietnam. His great-grandfather Kerns was the first Commander of the Malad American Legion.
After leaving the Army, he returned to St. Helens. He married Rena Cranmer. They had a son, Rhys. He and Rena later divorced. Kerry worked in the construction industry, including designing and building homes. He was a Master Carpenter and a proud member of UBC Local 1503.
He married Victoria (Vic) Todd. They were always a very loving couple. She cared for him to the last moment of his life.
For many years, Kerry and Vic owned a fruit and vegetable farm on the banks of the Nehlam River near Vernonia, Oregon. They also developed the first privately owned rest area as a community and area service.
Kerry loved music, especially to hear Vic play and sing. He loved taking pictures, growing things, playing golf, spending time with his son and friends, having fun, exploring and enjoying the ocean and the Nehlam River area.
Survivors include his wife, Vic; son, Rhys; father, Robert K. Davis; sister, Stephanie Rushing; brother, Kyle Davis; special family friend. Spencer Deschamps; his aunts, Diane Davis, Nancy Gentry; and numerous cousins nieces and nephews.
Also surviving is the loving family of Vic Davis, including two sons, one daughter and five grandchildren; in addition, the surviving members of the Stuart and Alice Davis family.
His loving son Rhys described Kerry as a positive, accepting and caring man.
