Robert Henderson Steele

Robert Henderson Steele passed away peacefully at home in Downey, Idaho on April 26, 2011, after a long struggle with cancer. Born in Walnut Creek, California on March 4, 1975, Robert lived in Richfield, Utah for three years and then grew up in Southern California where he was an adventurous boy and young man. He moved from Moreno Valley, California to Downey, Idaho in 2006.

Survived by his father and stepmother, David and Arva Steele, his mother and stepfather, Pamela Steele and Mark Gulley, and siblings, Stephanie Steele (Tim Rafferty), John Steele (Kathleen), Greg Steele, Jeff Steele (Jessica), Alex Steele (Melissa Zavislak), and Derek Steele, and three nephews, Ryan, Taylor, and Jacob, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Robert’s good friend, Rick Wiggill, who helped him through many physical struggles in his last years, also helped make it possible for Robert to travel and enjoy those years. Robert loved the outdoors – gardening, camping, hiking, taking pictures, and traveling. He was able to take trips to Washington D.C., Washington State, Yellowstone National Park and Montana, France and Italy, and cruise to the Mexican Riveria.

He loved animals, leaving behind his beloved dog, Cami, and six chickens – along with other family pets.

An Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Robert was able to go to the temple in 2008. Though his body grew frail and diminished, he did not shrink. We admire his strength through adversity. We love him and will miss him greatly – until we’re together again.

Services will be held Saturday, April 30 in the Downey LDS Chapel at 525 East 1st North, with a viewing from 10:00 to 11:45 a.m. and funeral service at noon. Interment will be at the Cambridge Cemetery.
