Richard “Dick” Smith Hobbs

SALT LAKE CITY — Richard “Dick” Smith Hobbs, 86, of Salt Lake City, Utah, passed away on Thursday, August 16, 2001, in the Highland Cove Health Care Center.
He was born March 3, 1915, in Preston, Idaho, a son of William and Reta Smith Hobbs. He grew up and was educated in Preston and Malad, and was a graduate of Malad High School.
He married Jennie Williams on July 14, 1936, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
“Dick” spent 42 years with the J.C. Penney Company, where he managed stores in Idaho, Wyoming and Utah, retiring in Logan. He also served in many civic and service organizations during his business career.
He was an avid “Aggie” fan for many years, and also enjoyed the game of golf, a love which he passed on to his grandsons. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he had served in various callings.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jennie Hobbs, of Salt Lake City; one daughter, Kathleen (Herm) Nevenner of Salt Lake City; two sons, Richard James (Molly) Hobbs of Santa Barbara, California, Jack (Nancy) Hobbs of Salt Lake City; 14 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, John (Jerrie) Kelly of Brigham City, Utah, and Dean (Darlene) Kelly of Yuba City, California; one sister, Ann, of Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 20, 2001, at noon in the Malad LDS Third Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 W. Friends may call at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, on Monday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
