Ren Evans Thomson

Ren Evans Thomson, husband, father, businessman, and friend passed away July 20, 2009, at the Oneida County Hospital, Malad, Idaho.
Ren and his twin brother Roy were born August 6, 1926, in Pleasant View, Idaho to Rose Evans Thomson and George Ariston Thomson. Ren and Roy were the youngest of nine children.
Ren married Sally Tapper in Seattle, Washington on November 18, 1944. They had five children: Craig Boise, Margo Wekenman Palouse, Wa, Janet Eck (Pat) Portland, OR, Marc (JoLyn) Malad, ID, and Eric (Cheryl) Brigham, UT. Ren and Sally have 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
After serving in the US Navy during WWII, he returned to Malad and sold farm machinery, sold cars and owned Ren’s Chevrolet. Ren believed in service to his community. He was active in the American Legion and was the VA service officer for Oneida County from 1990-2007, member of the Malad Volunteer Fire Department, Malad Chamber of Commerce, City Council, Oneida Fair Board, and the Oneida Hospital Board. Ren served on the Idaho State Parks and Recreation Board for eighteen years.
Ren was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and George; brothers: Robert (Ethel), George (Audrey), Richard (Doris), Sy (Juanita), Melvin (June) and two sisters: Ruth (Sherm) Margaret (Arthur).
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2009, at 12:00 noon in the 2nd Ward LDS Chapel, 100 W 20 S. Friends may visit with the family this evening, Thursday, July 23, from 6-8 PM at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N, and again on Friday at the funeral home from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will take place at the Malad Cemetery with Military rites accorded by the American Legion Ernest W. Jones, Post #65. In lieu of flowers, the Thomson family requests that donations be made to the Malad Volunteer Fire Department or a local charity of your choice.
