Reed B Facer

Reed B. Facer, 69, passed away on Monday, July 3rd in Malad City, Idaho after a short battle with cancer .

Reed was born on February 20, 1948, in Malad City, Idaho to Francis Marion and Vila Bell Facer. He was the fourth child and grew up in Malad City with two older brothers, one older sister and one younger sister. He graduated from Malad High School in 1966 where he lettered in Basketball and Track.

He was drafted during the Vietnam War Era and was able to see another part of the world when he was stationed in South Korea for one year. After being released from duty, he returned to work for the Idaho Transportation Department. He loved the job of plowing snow to keep the roads open and maintaining the state highways until he retired in 2003 after 35 years of service.

He married Lynda Wakley. They had two sons, Tyler and Travis. They later divorced.

In 1994, he married Sandy Willliams Wakley. They have enjoyed life together for the past 23 years.

In retirement, he purchased a fifth wheel trailer and started camping at his favorite outdoor spots of Devils Creek Reservoir, City of Rocks and Lava where he pursued his hobby of fishing and visiting with friends and relatives. His brother, Mel and sister, Sheila had trailers next to him for many years.

His favorite pastime was watching and betting on horse races. He was a member of the Oneida County Fair Board from 1997 to 2001. Reed and Sandy’s favorite vacation trip was always Elko, Nevada at the end of the summer to watch the horse races with friends. They enjoyed watching the Forty-Niner’s and the Giant’s games on TV and were able to make some great trips to San Francisco to see them.

He volunteered for the Malad Fire Department and was an active member for 19 years. The friendship with the fellow volunteers and serving the community were important to Reed.

He was a member of the American Legion Post #65.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; sons: Tyler (Michele) and Travis (Charlie) stepchildren: Misty (Marshal) Martinsen, Lance (Shelby) Wakley, Nicole (Warren) Smith; grandchildren: Mickayla Facer, Taylor Hess, Dallus Facer, Shandie Facer, Candice Shaffer, Anastasia Shaffer; step grandchildren: Brex Martinsen, Seya Martinsen, Sway Martinsen, Ruxin Smith, Taggart Smith, brothers: Jay (Barbara), Melvin (Nancy); sisters: Maxine (Richard) Bodily and Sheila Clark; brother in law Jerry (Becky) Williams, and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, Francis Marion Facer and Vila Bell Facer and his brother-in-law, Ralph Thomas Clark.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 7 at 12 noon in the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home, Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and Friday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Burial will follow in the Malad Cemetery.
