Ray Byron Court

Ray Byron Court, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away from cancer on Jun 7, 2008 three days before his 77th birthday in his home surrounded by loved ones. He died three weeks after being diagnosed. Born June 10, 1931 in Pleasant View, Idaho to Byron Owen Court and Bertha Ann Brown. He married Lorraine Jones on July 26, 1950 in the Logan Temple. Ray was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his sons, Bruce Court (Kaye) Ceres, CA; Byron (Bud) Court, Duchesne, UT; daughters, Gay Iorg (Dane) Pleasant Grove, UT; Belinda Cleverley (Dennis), West Haven, UT; and Becky Mackintosh (Scott), Lehi, UT; brother, Grant Court (Lynda), Orem, UT; Samuel Court, West Valley, UT; sister, Meladene Wilkenson (Mack), Bountiful, UT; Gail Rossberg (Harold), West Jordan, UT; and Janice Vandemerwe (Bill), Farmington, UT. He leaves 25 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Ray grew up in Garfield, UT and graduated from Cyprus High School in Magna. He was always a mechanic, and we thought he could fix anything. He was a cattle rancher in Dillon, MT for 12 years and then returned to Utah and taught diesel mechanics at Salt Lake Community College for 17 years. He loved to fish and tie flies. He leaves many memories with his family of these experiences. He retired at age 74 from ICM Equipment Company.

Ray served the Lord in many capacities, most of them known only to the recipients. He and Lorraine served as missionaries at Temple Square in Salt lake City. He worked in the name extraction program for many years and most recently at Crosslands and then at South Town Ranch, serving on Sundays and driving the patrons to the temple once a week. He was a care taker, helping his mother in her last years, and then caring for his wife who has been blind and bed-ridden. His fishing trips and travel were set aside as he learned new hobbies like cooking and gardening. His wonderful sense of humor carried him through every situation as well as helping others get through them too.

One of his most honored attributes was developing a personal relationship with every child, grandchild, and great-grandchild. He was the strong quiet support that showed up at each ball game, wrestling match, music performance, church ordination and family fathering. We love you and will miss you, but we are all better people for having had you in our lives.

Funeral services will be held June 11, 2008, 11:00 a.m. at the Crescent South Stake Center, Sandy, UT. Interment Pleasant View Cemetery, Pleasant View, Idaho, Wednesday, June 11, 2008.
