Randy Elliot Olsen


Randal “Randy” Elliot Olsen, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, peacefully passed away on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at his home in Malad, Idaho after a courageous battle with leukemia. He was born August 11, 1949 in Logan, Utah. He was the fifth of seven sons born to Frank Price Olsen and Alice Louise Newbrand Olsen. He was raised in Paradise, Utah and grew up on the family farm. He attended schools in Paradise and Wellsville, Utah and graduated from Skyview High School in Smithfield, Utah. He married his high school sweetheart, Peggy Lee Monson, on August 10, 1969 in Smithfield, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS temple on September 19, 1969. To this union six children were born. Randy earned a degree in diesel mechanics and was employed as a mechanic for several years. He later followed the oil boom and drove truck in the oil fields of Wyoming and North Dakota. Being a knowledgeable mechanic, he served a number of farmers in the Malad area. He was an avid outdoorsman and developed a love for hunting and fishing at a young age. He enjoyed numerous elk and deer hunts. Randy was an impressive marksman and showed great skill in the outdoors. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in various callings. Randy influenced several young men over the years serving in the Boy Scouts of America. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dale Brent Olsen (brother), and Kolby M Olsen (son). He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Peggy, and five children; Collin (Shelley) of Malad, Tiffany Bodily (Clayne) of Idaho Falls, Dustin (Jaime) of Malad, Ashley Anderson (Loren) of Hyrum, Utah, and Chelsea Butikofer (Austin) of Idaho Falls, nine granddaughters and nine grandsons. Services for Randy will be held on Tuesday, July 26, at the Malad LDS Stake Center located at 1250 N 1100 W at 12 noon. Friends may visit with family at the church on Monday, July 25, from 6 pm to 8 pm and Tuesday morning from 10:30 to 11:30 am. Burial will follow at the Malad City Cemetery.
