Ralph Wight Edwards

Ralph Wight Edwards, 78, of Boise died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 1996, in a Boise care center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, in the Alden-Waggoner Chapel. Dean Donald Cole of St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral will officiate. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Park, Twin Falls. Casket bearers will be members of the Boise and Twin Falls Future Farmers of America.

Ralph was born Oct. 20, 1917, at Malad, Idaho, the son of David Monson Edwards and Elizabeth Wight. He attended Elkhorn Elementary School, a country school in Oneida County, and graduated from Malad High School. His interest in agriculture started during his high school days with Future Farmers of America (FFA). He then attended the University of Idaho, graduating with a bachelor of science degree from the School of Agriculture.

In 1942, Ralph married Eleanor Jansen at Twin Falls. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Salmon, where Ralph taught vocational agriculture classes at Salmon High School. They later returned to Twin Falls where he taught ag classes at Twin Falls High School.

The family moved to Boise in 1952. Ralph was assistant state supervisor of vocational agriculture, and later became the state supervisor of vocational agriculture. He traveled the state of Idaho, introducing vo-ag programs to the high schools. He retired form that service in 1980 with 28 years of state service.

He is survived by his wife of Boise; a daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Sam Kekaula of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marcia Edwards of Boise; four sisters, Lucy Harrison of Orem, Utah, Hazel Larsen of Logan, Utah, Helen Jones of Malad, and June Wright of Provo, Utah; one brother, Gene Edwards of Malad; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

The family suggests memorials to Future Farmers of America, Foundation Division, Box 1974, Boise 83701.
