R. Grant Jensen, 94, passed away on Friday, July 3, 2009 in Layton, Utah, due to complications from a stroke. He was born September 26, 1914 in Malad, Idaho to Henry Andreas and Elvira Caroline Mortensen Jensen. Grant was the seventh of 13 children. He was educated in Holbrook and Malad where he graduated as valedictorian of his high school class. After graduation he worked for several farmers in the area. In the fall of 1937 at a local dance he met the girl of his dreams. Following a most enjoyable courtship, he married Thora Moon, September 13, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple. Grant spent the majority of his life working as a farmer in the community. He also worked as a state Potato inspector and spent several years working at the Sugar Factory in Garland Utah. He ended his working career as the custodian of the old Malad Stake Center. His hobbies included; hunting, fishing, camping, and generally being outdoors. He was an avid gardener and shared his harvest with many in the community. Grant possessed a sharp wit and the ability to relate humorous stories often sharing his talents in community, church, and family gatherings. He was an active member of the LDS Church and held many positions throughout the course of his life. The love of his life was his family. He loved each of his children equally but he had a special place in his heart for his son Kyle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 of his siblings. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Thora Moon Jensen, his 7 children; Grant Cleon (Barbara) of Ogden, Utah; Marilyn Kay (Cleve) Anderton of Pocatello, Idaho; Kenneth Wayne (Sandra) of Magna, Utah; Kyle Dee of Malad, Idaho; Bonita (Mohan) Mahallati of Sandy, Utah; Julie Ann of Centerville, Utah; Kerry William (Brooke) of Clinton, Utah; and 32 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 1 brother, Henry Jr. and 2 sisters, Maxine and Mary Lou.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to hospice and doctors of Malad, Idaho and Utah.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 10, 2009 at 11:00a.m. at the Malad LDS 6th Ward Chapel, 400 N. 200 W. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, July 9, from 6:00-8:00p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W 300 N in Malad and again from 9:30-10:30a.m. prior to the service in the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Pleasantview Cemetery.
