Philene Hall

FUNERAL SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. PHILENE HALL, PORTAGE
Funeral services were held Thursday in the Portage chapel for Mrs. Philene Hall, 76, who died at her home on May 23. Mrs. Hall was well known in this valley and highly respected by all. Speakers at the services included Bishop Howard Hale of Salt Lake City, R. T. Hale of McCammon, and President Thos. W. Richards. Musical numbers included vocal and instrumental selections. Invocation and benediction were by Thomas P. John and a. C. Harris. The capacity crowd which filled the church showed the high esteem in which Mrs. Hall was, held. A large number also accompanied the cortege to Salt Lake City where grave side services were conducted under the direction of Bishop Charles Gibbs with Milton H. Welling as speaker. The grave was dedicated by Charles Gibbs.
Mrs. Hall was born in Iowa and came to Salt Lake City with her parents when a child, living in Little Cottonwood, and later coming to Portage where the family settled at what was then Oregon Springs. She became a teacher in the schools of Portage and Washakie and has held many positions of responsibility in the community and church. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Leon a Johnson of Salt Lake City.
