Phil Roscoe Gambles

Phil Roscoe Gambles, 57, of Swan Lake, died Tuesday, February 18, 1992, at his home in Swan Lake after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born May 13, 1934, in Swan Lake, a son of George Roscoe and Thelma Brim Gambles. He grew up and was educated in Swan Lake, and was a graduate of Downey High School, class of 1952. He had later attended BYU and USU. He served an LDS mission to the West Central States. Upon his return, he joined the National Guard.
He married Betty Jane Gilbert March 13, 1959, in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. Since their marriage, they had lived in Swan Lake, where he had farmed and ranched. For many years he had also driven a school bus for the Marsh Valley School District. He was an active member of the LDS Church and had served as a counselor in the bishopric, as bishop, as high council member, and at the time of his death, was serving as high priest group leader.
He was an avid Brigham Young University sports fan. He loved his family and friends and enjoyed being with them.
He is survived by his wife, of Swan Lake, four sons, Ted Roscoe Gambles, Swan Lake; Bradley and daughter-in-law Lori Gambles, Elder Sidney Phil Gambles, currently serving in the Tulsa, Oklahoma mission and Todd William Gambles of Swan Lake; two daughters Shauna Gambles of Spanish Fork, Utah; and Mrs. Michael (Kristi) Wisner, Logan, Utah; three grandsons and one granddaughter; four brothers, Theron Gambles, Rexburg; Harry Gambles, Blackfoot, Milton Gambles, Soda Springs; and Paul Gambles, Salt Lake City, Utah; three sisters, Mrs. Hal (Barbara) Luke of Burley; Mrs. Robert (Lois) Hess of Malad; and Mrs. Ross (Marilyn) Child of Layton, Utah; his stepmother, Ruby Gambles of Bountiful, Utah, and one stepsister, Mrs. Larry (Kay) Young, Bountiful, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held Saturday at noon in the Swan Lake LDS Ward Chapel, Bishop Kent Robert Hadley officiating. Burial was in the Swan Lake Cemetery.
