UTAH TAKES EARLY SETTLER OF VALLEY
PETER ILLUM, AGE 86, DIED AT ST. JOHN HOME FRIDAY MORNING
Funeral services for Peter H. Illum, former Oneida County official, were held on Monday afternoon at the Stake Tabernacle. Bishop Henry Jones presided at the services at which the speakers were R. N. Hill, James B. Jones and John E. Blaisdell. A biographical sketch was given by Don Noble and musical numbers included a duet by Mrs. Russell Hess and Mrs. Wendell Monson; a solo by Thomas Jones and a quartet by Lester Tovey, Morgan Tovey, Edward Woozley and Melvin Yearsley. These numbers were accompanied by Mrs. Andie Talbot. Invocation was given by Arch Harris and the benediction by Andie Talbot.
Mr. Illum died at his home at 1st. John early Friday morning after an illness of almost three months.
He was born at Forberg, Denmark, on Feb. 19, 1852. He came to Utah in 1883, moving to Malad valley a short time later to engage in farming. He took a very active part in the earlier development of this valley. For sixteen years he was Oneida County Surveyor.
Mr. Ilium is survived by five sons, Sevil and John Blum of Malad, Carl and Edgar Ilium of Ogden, Utah, Gilbert Ilium of Antioch, Calif., and eleven daughters, Mrs. Arthur Meyers and Miss Elsie Ilum of Malad, Mrs. Betty Booth, of Plain City, Utah, Mrs. John L. Brown and Mrs. Ed. Williams of Salt Lake City, Mrs. Lynn Thomas, Antioch, Calif., Mrs. Wm. Kurz, San Francisco, Mrs. L. W. Danielson, Mrs. Charles Mackay, Mrs. R. G. Pingle, Portland, Mrs. W. E. Cartright, Hayes, Kansas.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Malad stake tabernacle.
