Norma M. Thomas, (1931)

Norma M. Thomas, of Malad, ID, passed away at the Oneida County Hospital, after a most valiant effort, on Friday, October 21, 2011. She was the 4th of 7 children born to Robert L. and Juanita S. Thomas. She was born on June 22, 1931, in Malad, ID and spent her youth on the family farm in Deep Creek.
She worked for Elton Ashton at the Chat ‘n Chew in Malad. She enjoyed the many years she worked there and became an icon of the community for the service she rendered while there.
She enjoyed serving the public, being with family and friends and rides around the Malad Valley.
She faithfully attended the Malad Senior Center lunches until her health prevented it. The friendships she made there were dear to her.
She looked forward to visits by her daughter Nola and husband Bill and delighted in her granddaughter, Darcie Coats.
Norma shared a special relationship with her niece Denise Thomas who came to take her on rides and back to visit the Chat ‘n Chew. She also enjoyed the special times spent with her cousin Sharon Frasure. Wally Facer was a special friend who assisted her in running errands and maintaining her home and yard. She was always delighted by the special TLC that she received from Sandra Colton.
She is survived by a daughter, Nola J. Coats(Bill), grandaughter Darcie Coats, all of Green River, WY, grandson Will Coats(Ruby) and children Cody and Abby of Battle Mountain, NV, brother Monte(Alice) Thomas, sisters-in-law Ruth W. Thomas and Josie Thomas all of Malad, ID, Sister Lorraine Starkey, of Nampa, ID, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by brothers: Robert G., Darrell, William E., and Gordon(Sam) Thomas.
She was loved by many and will be missed by all!
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday,(TODAY)October 24, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home in Malad, 132 W. 300 N. Friends may visit with the family on Today from 12:00-1:45 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery.
