Nellie Rex Christensen

Downey – Nellie Rex Christensen, 99, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011. Nellie Rex was born to Moses Josephat Christiansen and Mary Hartvigsen on February 5, 1912 at the family’s Cherry Creek farm, seven miles southwest of Downey, Idaho. She is the fourth child of six children born to her parents.

After living her first seven years on her families Cherry Creek Farm the family moved to Downey where she attended Downey Elementary and High School.

She married Milo Christensen on November 23, 1929 at the Cache County Courthouse in Logan, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized on April 1, 1932 in the Salt Lake Temple. Milo and Nellie lived their entire lives at Downey where they operated their family farm and raised their four boys.

She was active in the Downey Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions, among these President of the Ward Relief Society and Counselor in the Stake Presidency. She was a member and organizer of the Downey Sewing Club. She was also an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. She and Milo loved ballroom dancing and served as Ward Dance Directors and loved attending Ward and Stake dances. She was able to visit every State in the Union, with the exception of Hawaii.

She had a very special relationship with her brothers and sisters. For many years she live almost next door to her two-brother Elvin and John in Downey. She would get together with her three sisters, Myrtle, Edna and Eva almost every year to visit and occasionally go on trips and tours. She loved her family and often thought about them.

She is survived by her sons Roger Clark (Marilyn) Christensen, Soda Springs, Idaho, Robert Kirt (Margaret) Christenen, Centerville, Utah, daughter-in-law, Virginia Christensen, Chubbuck, Idaho, sister Eva, Alpine, Utah and sister-in-law Lena Christiansen. She has fourteen grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents, two sisters, Myrtle and Edna, two brothers, Elvin and John, stepbrother Ross Murray, husband Milo, sons Richard Devar, Marvin Rex and grandson Douglas.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 25, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the Downey LDS ward Chapel. Friends May visit with the family on Friday morning from 10:30-11:45 am prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Downey City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home.
