Nathan Melvin Yearsley

Nathan Melvin Yearsley, 91, of Rt. 1, Box 143, Malad, died early Tuesday morning, June 17, at his home of an apparent heart failure.
He was born April 10, 1889, in Woodruff, Idaho, just south of Malad. He grew up there and attended school. As a young man, the family moved to Brigham, Utah. He attended the B.Y. College in Logan, where he received a teaching certificate after which he taught school in the Henderson Creek, Bannock and Woodruff Schools. He married Josephine Jones Sept. 24, 1913, in the Logan LDS Temple. She died Sept. 28, 1964. They both taught school for a short time after their marriage. Mr. Yearsley purchased a farm in St. John, and has farmed there for many years, and was farming up until the day of his death. He married Elva Anderson Haslem Nov. 15, 1975, in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he had held many positions and responsibilities, including Home Teacher, Ward Clerk, Counselor in the St. John Bishopric, and was Bishop in St. John for 17 years. He had for the past number of years been the class instructor of the High Priest Group in the Ward. Mr. Yearsley was well known for his beautiful singing voice, and he had sung for many years in a quartet on various occasions.
He is survived by his wife of St. John; 2 sons and 7 daughters: Dale N. Yearsley and Evan Joyce Yearsley, both of Orem, Utah; Mrs. Darrell (Norma) Schiffman, Logan, Utah; Mrs. Perry (Elmo) Smith, Ventura, California; Mrs. Don (Rula) Gowers, Nephi, Utah; Mrs. Woodrow (Twila) Giles, Morgan, Utah; Mrs. Phil (Theone) Rees, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. DeVon (Ina) Daniels, Ogden, Utah; Mrs. Brian (Karen) Kent, Gooding, Idaho. Three brothers and one sister: Carl Yearsley, Oregon; Dee Yearsley, Brigham City, Utah; Clifford Yearsley, Driggs, Idaho; Mrs. Alta Raymond, Malad. 30 grandchildren; 73 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held

Friday, June 20, at 1:00 p.m. in the St. John LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Gene Edwards officiating. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home Thursday evening and Friday prior to the services.
Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
