Myrna Winifred Pruitt Asay

Myrna Winifred Pruitt Asay passed away April 14, 2014 after 91 years of a good life. She was born April 2, 1923 in Glade, Kansas. She was the daughter of William Wesley Pruitt and Blanche Winifred Gingles. She was the 7th child of 8. Her family moved to Bonners Ferry, Idaho in 1933. She graduated from high school there. She moved to Blackfoot then on to Seattle in 1942.There in the Seattle shipyards she found a job as a welder. While in the shipyard, she met Tom Babbitt from Malad. They were soon married and relocated to Malad. They had 2 daughters Kathyrn Lee and Barbara Louise but their marriage ended up in divorce. She met and married Kent Asay and moved out to the farm in St. John. 2 sons were soon born William Kent (Bill) and Michael Wesley but this marriage also ended in divorce in 1983 and the 2 boys took control of the farm and Myrna moved to the South Apartments in town where she stayed for over 30 years. Her last move was into the Long Term care at the hospital . Myrna joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1969. She held jobs in the primary and relief society but her favorite was doing Spanish extraction which she did for approximately 8 years until her eye sight declined to the point that she had to give up this calling. One of her best known accomplishments besides her family which she loved very much was her cooking. Especially her pies and rolls. She leaves behind her daughter Kathryn (Scott ) Randall of Twin Falls, sons Bill (Nancy) Asay and Michael (Cathy) Asay of Malad, one sister Edith Polestra of Sandpoint, ID, one sister in law Cleo Mae (John ) Hicks of Moyie Springs,ID,11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren and other nieces and nephews. Myrna was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers , 3 sisters, and 1 daughter Barbara(Kevin) Broberg.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2014 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel, 1100 W. 1250 N. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday evening from 6-7 p.m. and on Monday morning from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. prior to the service.
