Merrill Roe Walker

Merrill Roe Walker, 79, a longtime resident and businessman in Blackfoot, died Tuesday evening, August 17, 1993, at the Bingham County Care Center, after an extended illness.

He was born February 19, 1914, at Oakley, Idaho the son of Melvin Roland and Effie Louisa Hunter Walker. He attended schools in Oakley, and later obtained his teaching credentials from Albion Normal School.

He was married to Mae Jones in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on February 12, 1937. They bother taught school, but after thirteen years of teaching throughout southern Idaho, Mr. Walker entered the business world, owning and operating Walker Furniture & Appliance in Blackfoot for thirty-five years.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the ninth Ward High Priest’s Group, the JayCee’s, and the Blackfoot Lions Club, serving in many various office. In his spare time he enjoyed all outdoor sports, like hunting, fishing and camping.

He is survived by his wife, Mae, of Blackfoot; a son, Gary M. Walker, of Bountiful, Utah; a daughter, Janeece “Jan” Fields of Sebastopol, California; five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a grandson Mitchell Walker, and by four brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 21, at the Blackfoot Idaho East L.D.S. Stake Center. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
