Merna Marley Olson

Arimo- Merna Marley Olson passed away December 26, 2016, at home. She was born April 24, 1920, in Marsh Center, Idaho to her parents Robert Edwin Cole and Almira Jane Cutler Cole. She is the youngest of 8 Children, 2 brothers and 5 sisters. She was a good student and was the Valedictorian of her class. She got acquainted with the bus driver by the name of Austin Marley and started dating. They were married August 12, 1938, in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with 3 sons. Merna was a good cook and kept a tidy home. Her first job outside the home was with Hill Brothers Buick in Pocatello as an Office Assistant. She only worked there about 6 months. She decided she was needed more at home. Somewhere along the line, she started driving school bus. She started driving Austin’s afternoon route and later got her own route. She decided to go to Pocatello in the middle of the day to Grimm’s Business College to get more training in typing and bookkeeping and learn to run a Keypunch Machine. She later went to work in the evenings at Farmers Insurance as a Keypunch Operator. while working there she also helped keep books at the Lumber Yard in Arimo and worked 2 hours a week at the Post Office. After doing this for 2 years she decided to quit Farmers Insurance so she could work more at the Post Office. Merna became the new Post Master in 1973. She attended several State and National conventions and Retired after 22 years of service. Austin passed away December 4, 1998. She started going to St. George, Utah for the winters. While she was home for the summer she met and married Keith Olson on May 20, 2000. This brought 7 stepchildren. They had 5 wonderful years together traveling and going to St. George for the winters. Keith passed away

on June 7, 2005. She continued to go to St. George for the winters. She is survived by her children, Merrill (Darla), Lloyd, Don (Dennie) Marley all of Arimo. Step-children Carol (Heber) Alldredge, Gordon (Barbara) Olson, Bryce (Judy) Olson, Sheldon (Dianne) Olson, Dwight (Raquel) Olson, Bonnie (Stephen)Wheatley, Kathie (Dean) Myler, 10 Grandchildren, 16 Great-grandchildren, 5 Great great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Almira Cole, her husbands Austin Marley and Keith Olson, her brothers Robert C and Royal Cole, sisters Lora Gunter Ellsworth, Vera Ward Clinkscales, Arda Henderson Klonglan, Eva Croshaw, Almira Richardson, and 2 Great Grandchildren Jerric Gittins and Kwintse Marley. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 30 at the Arimo Stake Center at 12:00 noon with a viewing from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Horsley Funeral Home.
