Merle Keith Day

Downey, Idaho…Merle Keith Day, 83, of Downey, husband of Fay Morrison Day, passed away on December 30, 2008 in Preston. He was born on May 2, 1925 in Arimo, Idaho, a son of Fred and Edith Halverson Day. Merle was raised and educated in Lava Hot Springs and Downey. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served overseas during WWII as an electrician. Upon his return, he married Fay Louise Morrison on April 10, 1946. They resided in Downey for a short time and then moved to N.Salt Lake City, Utah, where his employment with the UPRR took them. He worked as a Carman for 35 years. When he retired, they returned to Downey where they have since lived. Merle enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and working the land on his farm. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Merle is survived by his wife of 61 years, Fay, of Downey; Children; Fred Day of N. Salt lake City, Utah; Harvey (Cheryl) Day of Logan, Utah; Douglas (Jill) Day of Papillion. Nebraska; 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. a brother; Dean Day of Lava Hot Springs; a sister; Dawno Washburn of Boise. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son; and a son; Dennis Day. Funeral services will be held on monday January 5, 2009 at 12 noon in Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home 570 N. Meadowview Dr. in Arimo. Friends may visit with the Day family on Monday prior to services from 10:30-11:30- am. Burial will follow in the Arimo Cemtery, with military rites accorded by the Downey American Legion, post #21.
